Handling the Dress

Bridal consultants are professionals who are prepared to work with a bride who is in her underwear or less. At Jessica’s in particular, Jessica the owner, has been through nursing school and maintains a high level of professional conduct in dealing with dressing men and women alike. Don’t be embarrassed if your evening dresses 2013 you and stands in the change room. A consultant may ask you to remove your bra or readjust your breasts so that you get an accurate depiction of how the gown will fit, this is important when trying gowns on. If you are shy then ask that the consultant to tell you the best way to get into the gown. Once you are ready with the gown on, she will enter the change room and assist in closing up the dress or holding it in a manner that shows how the gown will fit. One thing you should always wear is panties. Even though the consultant is professional, she does not appreciate bare nethers.

Standard policy for a bridal shop is to have the sales associate/consultant handle the gowns. He or she will remove the dress from the rack and the bag and place it in the room for you. Do not be offended should a bridal consultant ask you not the handle the gown other than to put it on. This policy protects you and the gowns. If a gown you handled by you, becomes damaged the salon may hold you responsible for repairs or replacement of that gown.

Gowns can be very expensive and the last thing you want is to have to pay for a gown you didn’t want or add extra expense to what may be a large value purchase. However, if a gown rips or becomes damaged while you are being assisted, you should not be held accountable. The same goes for sample dress wear and tear. If the gown is not in pristine condition then damage further caused to it through wear and tear is not on your head. If you are trying on a gown and it’s a tight fit or you are having trouble getting it on due to it being too small, do not force it, it will tear. Again, the bridal consultant is the most trusted person to help you in and out of any gown.

Remember too that you may be asked to remove your makeup and wash your hands. The salon wants to keep the gowns clean and pristine for the other brides who try on that same gown. Oddly enough, the consultant may ask if your armpits or deodorant have a history of causing yellow staining. Upon appointment, you may be asked to be showered and without deodorant for the fitting to avoid yellowing. Don’t worry though, you can bring your deodorant along and if needed you may apply it.

This is rare but you may be asked, so be prepared. It is a good idea to be showered the day of your gown shopping, it just makes you feel good and keeps the gowns clean.

Having a relative help you may be an option with the careful guidance and watch of the consultant. Be aware that you may still be held responsible for any damage if a friend or family member is assisting and damage is caused.
